Making Progress

We are running three main analyses on the cores. We took the cores to the Limnological Research Center, where they were analyzed for magnetic susceptibility. Over the past few weeks I’ve been running Loss on Ignition analysis, which will tell us how much of the sediment is organic, inorganic, and carbonate material.   Also, I am starting to test for Total Phosphorous today.

There is still plenty of work to be done, but things are starting to come together, and so far the results are looking pretty interesting.

Here’s a picture of us coring out on River Lake.  It was a beautiful day, and we were able to collect three Livingston cores.

Here we are extruding one of the cores we collected.  We now have just over three meters of mud to work with.
Special thanks to Gordon Dietzman for the use of his photos.
